Refugee Services - Church & Civic Group Involvement
Be The First to Welcome Them
Groups hosting refugee families are the first to welcome them to the United States. These families have fled their home countries due to a well-founded fear of persecution.
They have left behind family, friends, and their way of life. Host groups provide families with assistance to help them with their adjustment to a new culture and ultimate goal of self-sufficiency. Most importantly, host groups offer refugee families encouragement and emotional support.
Churches and civic groups interested in sponsoring a refugee family can assist in their resettlement by choosing one or both of the options below.
Option 1
Obtaining Furnishings and other household supplies for refugee families:
- Furniture
- Kitchen items
- Linens and other household supplies
- Cleaning supplies
- Toiletries
- Food
- Other necessities depending on need
Option 2
Visiting the refugee families that have arrived and providing some of the following services:
- Airport reception
- Community orientation (Visit to Doctor, Grocery Store, etc.)
- Cultural orientation
- English tutoring
- Helping children with homework
- Financial support to meet housing obligations
