Counseling Services has been providing compassionate counseling and other related services for more than 47 years to the residents of Central Florida. Our caring professionals serve individuals, children, families and couples. Our clients are people who are having difficulty coping with the problems of everyday life or who may be troubled by stressful situations. Others may be seeking personal growth and healing or are considering a major change in their life through marriage or adoption.

Specializations Specialization

Masters or Ph.D.-level, licensed counselors provide professional counseling services for adults, children, youth and families experiencing a wide range of social, emotional, behavioral, educational, mental health or family problems. Counselors have expertise in providing counseling for children/youth/families involved in the child welfare system, child/youth victims of sexual abuse and trauma, as well as Premarital assessment and adoption preparation. Some of the areas we concentrate on are:

  • Assisting to restore and enhance your daily life
  • Helping you meet your personal goals for self-improvement
  • Helping you cope with life's challenges
  • Helping you take the next step toward marriage preparation or adoption
  • Catholic Pre-marital Evaluations and Post-Annulment Evaluations

Catholic Charities of Central Florida’s Counseling Services are available by appointment. Flexible hours are provided for appointments in Orlando, Daytona Beach, Cocoa, Lakeland and various satellite locations. Limited Spanish-speaking counselors are available. We also offer life skills training, pre-marital compatibility assessments, psycho-education groups, classes and presentations as well as consultations. Fees are based on income and ability to pay.

Confidentiality

All contacts with a CCCF counselor are covered by and conform to the Florida State Department of Health Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family and Mental Health Counseling regulations and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act Privacy Act of 1996.

This means that any information disclosed during your contact with Catholic Charities of Central Florida Counseling Services will be kept strictly confidential as required by this Act, and by applicable ethical standards. Your written permission is required before any information about your contact with Catholic Charities of Central Florida Counseling Services is released to anyone outside the agency. This means if your spouse, child, parent, friend, or professor, etc., calls us, we cannot even acknowledge that we know of you. It also means if you want us to release information to someone else, we cannot do so until you give us permission in writing.

According to the Act, however, there are three situations when we are required to release information:

  • If a minor child is at risk of being abused or neglected, a counselor would be required to report that information to the appropriate agency to assure the safety of the child.
  • If you present an imminent risk of serious injury to yourself. In this case, the counselor would take action to assure your safety, releasing only the information needed to do this.
  • If you threaten serious harm to another person. Again, we would have to take action to protect the other person, releasing only the information necessary to assure the person's safety.
  • In all cases, whenever confidential information is going to be released, our professional staff will always notify the client that such action is being taken.
