General OverviewSince its establishment in 1961, Catholic Charities of Central Florida has become the largest private, multi-function social service agency serving 11,000 sq. miles in Central Florida. Catholic Charities has been a United Way partner agency since 1963. The staff comes from many backgrounds and cultures, providing multi-lingual capabilities. Catholic Charities assists the community by providing vital services to people in need regardless of their religious, social, or economic background. Catholic Charities strives to improve the lives of individuals and families to strengthen the community. The programs include emergency family assistance, individual, couple, and family counseling, crisis pregnancy counseling, adoption services, criminal justice and prison and jail services, police stress unit, immigration and refugee services, abstinence education, a senior center, a food bank and food pantry services. The programs reflect the specific needs in the communities they serve. Some programs are available in all offices; others at specific locations. This flexibility contributes to the effectiveness in implementing the agency’s mission. The agency also does disaster response providing food, water, personal care items and counseling not only locally but across the state. Support for the agency comes from the people of the Catholic Diocese of Orlando, the United Way, grants and private donations. In order to assure the delivery of the highest quality of services, Catholic Charities pursued and received national accreditation through the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children (COA).
