Healthcare Services:

Lazarus Free Medical Clinic provides free medical care to Lake, Sumter Counties uninsured working poor.

The mission of the LFMC is to promote wellness and to provide caring, quality medical care, specialty referral services, preventive health education to disadvantaged migrant workers and the working poor families of Sumter/Lake/Marion Counties. Residents who are at or below the Federal Poverty Level qualify for services. The San Pedro Maldonado Mission provides the facility and CCCF provides the oversight and management of the medical clinic.

Guiding principles for Clinic operations

  • Provide free medical care for the working poor in Sumter, Lake, and Marion Counties
  • Serve diverse populations
  • Provide medical care for poor, disadvantaged, underserved population

Clinic operations

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:00—8:00 P.M. (except holidays)

Clinic Staffing:
Medical Director, Physicians, Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurses, Certified Health Educator, and Eligibility Specialists volunteering their time.

There are an estimated 7,000 – 9,000 disadvantaged and underserved migrant workers and the working poor/families of Sumter/Lake/Marion Counties. Residents who are at or below the Federal Poverty Level qualify for services.

Hospital commitments/agreements are established for in-kind patient lab/x-rays

Funding is provided by donations from churches, individuals, grants from local hospital foundations, in-kind donations of medical and office equipment and local fund raising efforts. However, volunteers are the major contributors to the success of the clinic.

Financial: Catholic Charities of Central Florida has received a grant from the Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida to enhance clinic operations, in addition to donations from local Catholic Churches and the faith-based community.

St. Thomas Aquinas Free Medical Clinic provides medical care to Osceola County’s uninsured working poor.

According to the 2006 census figures for Osceola County, an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 working poor are in need of assistance and may be served by the clinic.

Guiding principles for Clinic operations

  • Reaffirm the clinic’s commitment to serve diverse populations
  • Provide medical care for the poor, disadvantaged population

Catholic Charities of Central Florida Medical Clinics (St. Cloud) provide health care programs and services such as medical care, case management, and medication referrals, preventive health education programs, medical specialist referrals, and referrals to community social services for the working poor.

The clinic complies with all State, Federal and HIPAA regulatory requirements. Licensed health care professionals are granted sovereign immunity under the Volunteer Health Care Provider Program under the Department of Health, State of Florida. CCCF holds separate sovereign immunity as a provider.
