FAQ’s About Adoption

What is an adoption plan?
An adoption plan is a loving, responsible decision made by the birth parents regarding who will parent their child.

How is the adoptive family chosen?
The birth parents are given the opportunity to choose a family after reviewing family albums of potential adoptive couples.

How can I be sure that the people who adopt are safe?
Adoptive parents must meet rigorous standards before they are allowed to adopt.

Can I choose the level of openess in my adoption plan?

Yes. There are various levels of openess, which are based on a mutual agreement between the birth parents and the adoptive family.  This may range from receiving pictures and updates on your child throughout his or her lifetime - to seeing your child on an ongoing basis.

What if the father of the baby objects to the adoption?
The father has rights.  In order to contest the adoption certain legal steps must be taken.
